November 1st: Flyers Fall to Kincardine Bulldogs in Shootout, 4-3

In another closely contested Highway 21 rivalry matchup, the Goderich Flyers took the Kincardine Bulldogs to a shootout but fell short in a 4-3 loss. Despite outshooting the Bulldogs in overtime and maintaining pressure throughout, the Flyers couldn’t clinch the win, marking their second shootout loss to Kincardine this season.

First Period: Trading Goals
Kincardine opened scoring at 10:13 with a goal from Austin Dunlop, assisted by Wyatt Thomas and Blake Hellyer. The Flyers responded just six minutes later when captain Carson Stutzman found the net, with an assist from Jack Stecho, tying the game 1-1. The period saw both teams create opportunities, with Kincardine edging the Flyers in shots, 15-13.

Second Period: Flyers Push Ahead
The Flyers gained momentum early in the second period. Kaeden MacDonald’s goal at 6:34, assisted by Jackson Andrews and Stutzman, gave Goderich their first lead of the night. Just as the Flyers seemed to be finding their rhythm, a heated moment saw Stutzman and Kincardine’s Dunlop drop the gloves, leading to fighting majors and game misconducts for both players. Kincardine leveled the score shortly after with a goal from Caeleb Bowler at 13:38. Goderich reclaimed the lead at 18:49, as Leland Weber scored with help from Kyle Smeltzer, taking a 3-2 advantage into the third.

Third Period: Kincardine Equalizes
Kincardine’s Dustin Heipel tied the game early in the third period, converting assists from Bryce Martin and Wilson Shipp at 4:58. Despite several chances for both teams, neither could break the deadlock through regulation or overtime. Goderich continued to press in the third but couldn’t find the back of the net, with Kincardine edging them in shots 13-6.

Shootout
In the shootout, Kincardine secured the victory with goals from Sawyer Olmstead and Dustin Heipel, while the Flyers were unable to convert their chances. Iain MacIsaac and Jack Stecho both came up short, leaving Kincardine to clinch the win.

Final Thoughts
The Flyers showed resilience, with rookie Kaeden MacDonald and captain Carson Stutzman contributing to keep the game within reach. Christian DeJong held strong in goal, facing a total of 35 shots with crucial saves in overtime. Special teams struggled to capitalize on multiple power plays, an area they’ll look to strengthen as they head to Walkerton for their next game.
