Battle of Highway 21 Ends in Shootout Heartbreak for Flyers
In the first meeting of the season between these rivals, the Goderich Flyers battled to a close 4-3 shootout loss against the Kincardine Bulldogs. Despite outshooting Kincardine 53-36 overall, the Flyers couldn’t secure the game-winner in regulation or overtime, ultimately falling just short in a thrilling showdown.
First Period: Back-and-Forth Start
Kincardine opened the scoring at 5:37, but Iain MacIsaac quickly responded for the Flyers with a solo effort to tie the game. Late in the period, Kincardine regained the lead with a goal from Bryce Martin, assisted by Caeleb Bowler and Jordan Moulton, putting the Bulldogs up 2-1.
Second Period: Flyers Push Back
Leland Weber’s early second-period goal brought the Flyers back to 2-2. Just over a minute later, Kincardine reclaimed the lead, yet the Flyers’ relentless pressure continued, paying off when Kaeden MacDonald tied the game again at 3-3 with only minutes remaining in the period. The Flyers’ offensive presence was evident, keeping Kincardine on their heels and showcasing some of the team’s best puck movement this season.
Third Period and Overtime: Flyers Come Up Short
In a hard-fought third, shots were nearly even, with Kincardine edging out 13-12 as both teams pushed for a winner. The Flyers held strong defensively, while goaltender Brady Galbraith came up with clutch saves to keep his team in the game. Kincardine goalie Ryan Tanner, however, turned in a stellar performance, stopping all 12 third-period attempts. Despite an overtime power-play opportunity, Goderich’s man advantage couldn’t produce, leaving the Flyers still seeking a consistent spark in that area.
Shootout Drama
In the shootout, Goderich’s attempts by Kingston Powell, Carson Stutzman, and Leland Weber were all turned aside, while Kincardine’s Aidan Yarde found the net, clinching the Bulldogs’ victory. Tanner’s 50-save effort made all the difference, denying the Flyers at every turn in a game they largely controlled.
Final Thoughts
The Flyers put forth a relentless effort, with Brady Galbraith posting a .914 save percentage in his third straight start. The Flyers come away with a point – enough to keep them just ahead of the Bulldogs in the North Pollock Division standings. They’ll look for redemption in their very next game when they face the Bulldogs in a rematch on November 1st in Kincardine, followed by another in Goderich on November 9th, marking their first home game in nearly a month.
