Goderich, ON – The Goderich Flyers are pleased to announce that Todd Norman will be the General Manager ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Todd joins the Flyers with plenty of knowledge and experience in the hockey industry, having been the Head Coach of the Kincardine Bulldogs for the last three seasons.
Prior to coaching in Kincardine, he was the assistant coach of the Listowel Cyclones, helping them achieve a 116-29-1-4 regular season record, as well as winning two Cherry Cup Championships (2016 and 2017) and the Sutherland Cup Championship (2018).
Prior to his coaching career, Norman had an impressive career of his own. At just 14 years old, he played Jr. C for the Brussels Bulls. When he was 15, he moved up to Jr. B in Stratford. He was drafted to the Guelph Storm in the 3rd round of the 1993 OHL Priority Selection. He spent four seasons with the Storm, playing in 253 games with a total 115 goals and 140 assists. Todd had a number of highlights over his time with the Storm, including being both an assistant captain and team captain, one Memorial Cup appearance (1995/96), and he earned the Guelph Storm Top Scorer Award for the 1996-1997 season.
During the 1994/95 season, he earned a spot on the Team Canada U18 team where he would win gold alongside NHL Hall of Famer Jarome Inginla.
In 1995, Todd was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 5th round of the NHL Draft (120th overall).
Following his time with the Guelph Storm, Todd played in both the American Hockey League and the East Coast Hockey League, as well as with St. Francis Xavier University in the CIS. He returned home to play Sr. A in the WOAA, before hanging up the skates and beginning his coaching career in 2015.
Todd’s experience and qualities will certainly act as a great learning tool for our players. He has an excellent hockey mind, who has experience at many levels of junior and high-level hockey. We are honoured to have him join our organization, and we are excited to see what he can do for our team, our players, and our community.
Alongside Todd Norman, the Flyers have also welcomed two Assistant General Managers.
Russell Sutton: The Flyers would like to welcome Russell back to the organization. Prior to coaching, Russel played 3 years with the Wingham Ironmen before playing an astounding 19 years in his hometown with the Lucknow Lancers.
In 2011, he hung up his skates and began coaching the Lancers. He would find his start in the junior hockey league in 2012, beginning in Wingham, Hanover, Goderich, and most recently Kincardine. He was also a scout with the Elliot Lake Wildcats, and most recently the Stratford Warriors.
We are very excited to have Russ back in Goderich and look forward to getting started.
Mara Cutting: Mara grew up playing hockey in Lucknow, and attended Lambton College for Sports and Recreation Administration in 2019. While in school, she was a Game Day Intern with the Sarnia Sting of the OHL. What began as a learning experience soon turned into a full-time position as she was hired as Manager of Marketing and Merchandise in 2021. This included responsibilities such as social media management, sales, game day operations, and more.
After the 2021/22 season concluded, she decided to return to school for Agriculture at the University of Guelph Ridgetown campus, and volunteered for the Goderich Flyers on the side managing the social media and taking photos.
She has great knowledge and a passion for hockey, and we are excited to have her as part of our management team.
