The Goderich Flyers came up short in their only game of the weekend, falling 4-0 to the Mount Forest Patriots. Despite a solid push in the third period that saw them fire 17 shots on goal, the Flyers couldn’t find a way to solve the Patriots’ defense and goaltending.
1st Period
Mount Forest got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead just 2:26 into the game. The Patriots added consistent pressure throughout the period, outshooting Goderich 15-5. The Flyers struggled to sustain offensive zone time, and the Patriots capitalized on their chances to control the tempo.
2nd Period
The Flyers picked up their game in the second, increasing their shot count to 10 for the frame. However, Mount Forest extended their lead late in the period at 18:14, making it 2-0 heading into the third. Despite a couple of power play opportunities, the Flyers were unable to generate significant scoring chances against a tight Patriots penalty kill.
3rd Period
Mount Forest’s offense stayed strong in the final period, scoring twice more to put the game out of reach. The Flyers showed some resilience, putting up 17 shots in the third, their highest output of the night, but couldn’t convert those opportunities into goals. Mount Forest’s defense stood tall, and their goaltending remained perfect to secure the shutout.
Final Thoughts
The Flyers were outshot 50-32 and couldn’t find an answer for Mount Forest’s sustained offensive pressure. While the third period saw a stronger effort from Goderich, the Patriots were simply too much to handle, showcasing why they’re one of the division’s top teams.
