Flyers Fall to Mitchell in Shootout After 3rd Period Comeback

 

The Goderich Flyers battled hard but came up short in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Mitchell Hawks on October 18th.

First Period: Mitchell Takes Early Lead
Mitchell jumped out with two quick goals, including a power-play tally, to take a 2-0 lead.

Second Period: Flyers Start to Climb Back
Mitchell extended their lead to 3-0, but the Flyers’ fourth line sparked the comeback. Aidan Terpstra scored his first goal of the season at 17:15, followed by a power-play goal from Kingston Powell at 18:18, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Third Period: Flyers Complete the Comeback
Austin Waite tied the game 3-3 with a power-play goal at 3:28. Goderich dominated the third period, outshooting Mitchell 15-4, but despite several breakaway chances, Mitchell’s newly acquired goalie Aiden Hill held strong, forcing the game to overtime. Hill joins the Hawks after spending the beginning of the season with the Stratford Warriors in the GOJHL.

Overtime and Shootout
Neither team scored in overtime, and the shootout saw Mitchell come out on top to secure the 4-3 win.

Mitchell:

2. Gansevles – NO
3. Brame – NO
4. Tenhag – YES

Final Thoughts
The Flyers showed resilience, erasing a 3-0 deficit, with the fourth line stepping up to score two of the three goals. Despite outshooting Mitchell in the third and applying heavy pressure, Goderich couldn’t break through in the shootout.
