Flyers Fall 5-2 to Hanover, Show Grit in the Third
The Goderich Flyers couldn’t overcome an early deficit on the road against the Hanover Barons, falling 5-2 on October 11th. Hanover jumped to a three-goal lead in the first period, and despite a late goal from Jackson Andrews, the Flyers were unable to close the gap.
First Period: Hanover Takes Control
Hanover’s quick three-goal burst in the first half of the period put the Flyers on their heels, but Jackson Andrews gave Goderich a lifeline with a goal at 16:34, assisted by Kaeden MacDonald and Jack Stecho.
Second Period: Barons Add to Their Lead
The Flyers battled hard but couldn’t gain momentum as Hanover added a fourth goal midway through the second period. Both teams exchanged penalties, but the Flyers couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities to close the gap.
Third Period: Hanover Seals the Win, Gaul Gets on the Board
Cooper Gaul netted his first goal of the season at 8:50, bringing the Flyers within reach, but a late power-play goal for Hanover at 17:23 secured the Barons’ 5-2 win. Despite some offensive pressure, the Flyers couldn’t capitalize on chances in the final minutes.
The game ended with a flurry of altercations in the final minute, including two tilts that resulted in fighting majors and game misconducts for Austin Aldrich and Trent Carter. The Flyers showed they wouldn’t back down, standing their ground against a tough Hanover squad. Their physical response emphasized the team’s willingness to push back in difficult games.
Final Thoughts
While Hanover controlled the scoreboard, the Flyers’ grit and refusal to back down in a physical game stood out. Goderich will look to channel that intensity in their next game at home tonight vs Walkerton. Puck drops at 8pm at the Goderich MRC.
