Flyers Fall 4-2 to Mount Forest Despite Late Push
The Goderich Flyers couldn’t overcome Mount Forest’s steady scoring, falling 4-2 on October 25th.
First Period: Tight Defense and Early Penalties
Both teams played a disciplined defensive game in the first period, exchanging a few penalties but without any scoring. The Flyers had an early penalty kill following Austin Waite’s high-sticking minor but held Mount Forest at bay.
Second Period: Mount Forest Takes Control
Mount Forest struck first with a shorthanded goal from Luke Eurig at 0:43, giving them a 1-0 lead. Shortly afterward, Will Lewis extended the lead to 2-0 at 8:12, assisted by Jordan Leitch and Charlie McKenzie. The Flyers responded with a power-play goal at 9:24 when Trent Carter found the net, assisted by Jared Houghton and Ryan McGee, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Mount Forest quickly answered back, though, with Gavin Downs scoring at 17:54, assisted by Quinn Habermehl and Matt McLellan, to end the period with a 3-1 lead.
Third Period: Flyers’ Late Push Falls Short
Mount Forest widened the gap early in the third with a power-play goal from Gavin Downs at 1:13, assisted by Matt McLellan and Reid Caswell, making it 4-1. The Flyers pushed back late, with rookie scoring leader Kingston Powell adding a power-play goal at 18:50, assisted by Austin Waite and Trent Carter, bringing him to 12 points in 12 games. Despite this late effort, the Flyers couldn’t overcome the deficit.
Final Thoughts
The Flyers showed flashes of improvement on special teams, scoring both their goals on the power play despite conceding a shorthanded goal. Brady Galbraith stood out with a .911 save percentage, stopping 41 of 45 shots. The Flyers’ progress with the man advantage signals a positive trend, even as they seek more consistent play to break through against tough opponents.
